Yokai ( ghost, phantom, strange apparition) are a class of supernatural monsters, spirits, and demons in Japanese folklore. In the Edo period, many artists, such as Toriyama Sekien, invented new yokai by taking inspiration from folk tales or purely from their own imagination.

this netsuke carved highly sophisticated with a turtle-like carapace on their backs.  long sward on her shoulder and basket in the hand.
