The Patriotic war and Russian society 1812-1912. Anniversary edition. Volume VI.
M. Edition of T-VA I. D. Sytin. 1912 4, 208 p. Hardcover, 21 x 29 cm. Excellent condition.

The sixth volume of the seven-year anniversary edition, reflecting the impact of the Patriotic war of 1812 on the social, political and cultural life of Russia and Europe. Includes articles on the foreign campaigns of the Russian army, relations between Russia and Prussia, and the fall of Napoleon. Especially interesting is the research on the role of the personality of Napoleon in the development of a new direction of European literature — romanticism. The publication features thoughtful illustrative material collected in archives, museums and private collections.

The Patriotic war of 1812 is one of the most dramatic and at the same time the most significant moments in Russian history. It caused passions, high and low, to play out, it produced changes in the social structure of society, it initiated a certain current in the domestic and foreign policy of Russia.

When planning their book, the authors did not mean it as a purely military review. Russian Russians wanted to try to see the image of Russian society through the smoke of fires, through the bloody fog that rises from countless battlefields, to determine the share of participation in the war of Russian social groups. This formulation of the problem forced them to abandon the view of the Patriotic war as a separate phenomenon that lasted for several months. Only when placed within the framework of European history, studied in close connection with the entire epoch, can it be properly understood and evaluated. Therefore, the issue is considered in the publication begins with the reign of Catherine II, with the Franco-Russian and international relations in General of her time, with the first clashes of the revolution with reactionary Europe, and ends with the end of the reign of Alexander I.

The publication is richly illustrated with various historical materials, including images of typical modern monuments of life and culture, reproductions of the most striking paintings by foreign and Russian artists of the late XVIII - early XIX century, the best examples of historical painting of the early XX century, as well as images of some military relics of our past.
