An important source for studying the history of the don Cossacks is the "Collection of government orders on the Cossack troops". Collections were published in St. Petersburg by the Main Directorate of the Cossack troops from 1870 to 1917. A total of 52 volumes were published. The Collections for the first time published government documents on all the Cossack troops, documents on the structure, service, economy of the Cossack troops, the highest orders, orders of the war Ministry.
Separately were published: Chronological index of resolutions in 2 volumes for 1865-1895; Systematic index of resolutions in 3 volumes for 1865-1895; alphabetical index to 1-8 volumes (from January 1, 1865 to January 1, 1873)
