When a Belgian couple in the 1950s bought an apartment, they also inherited some surprises that the previous landlord left them. Among them was a Chinese vase decorated with paintings of phoenix and butterflies.
Although the stamp on the back indicates that the vase was made during the Ming Dynasty - which ruled China for 276 years until the 17th century (which could certainly have been crowned as the real estate deal of the year ...), the stamp was written in a modern Chinese drawing that indicates our time.
We think the vase is impressive in its exotic beauty even if not created under the precise and perfect meticulousness that characterized China 400 years ago.
