Very popular in France, Jean Béraud was a French painter renow- ned for nightlife Parisian portraits. Guy de Maupassant wrote many texts about him. BÉRAUD liked to picture the Champs Elysées, cafés, Montmartre, banks of the Seine during the Belle Époque. Friend with Edouard Manet and Edgar Degas. His painting style gra- dually shifted from academic realism to creative impressionism. Paul César Helleu was a French oil painter, pastel artist and desi- gner famous for his popular portraits of beautiful women from the Belle Epoque. Author of the sky constellations for Grand Central Station in New York City, he built himself a name internationally. Among his friends was Coco Chanel, for whom his son Jean Hel- leu and his grandson Jacques Helleu became artistic directors in the Perfume section. They kept in mind Paul César’s passion for the representation of glamorous and charming women and worked many years with Chanel, portraying perfectly what she intended.
