Artsrunyan Edward Stimonovich (1929-2010)
Armenian and Soviet painter, teacher, one of the largest representatives of modern Armenian painting. People's Artist of the Armenian SSR (1989). Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR (1961). After graduating from the Leninakan Art School named after I. Merkurov, was admitted to the art school named after P. Terlemezyan in Yerevan. He continued his studies at the secondary art school at the All-Russian Academy of Arts (1947-1951). In 1951-1957 he studied at the painting department of the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. IE Repin at the USSR Academy of Arts in Leningrad. He moved to Moscow, where he worked at the Plakat publishing house. In 1974 he moved to Armenia and settled in Yerevan. 1980-1990s - member of the board of the Union of Artists, chairman of the painting section of the Union of Artists of Armenia. He taught at the Yerevan Art School named after. Terlemezyan, at the Art Institute (now the National Academy of Fine Arts (Armenia)). In 1957 he took part in the All-Union Art Exhibition in Moscow for the first time. Subsequently he participated in many collective exhibitions. In 1991-2004 he had numerous personal exhibitions in a number of cities of Armenia and the USSR - in Yerevan, Echmiadzin, Gyumri, Moscow, as well as foreign countries, including France, Great Britain, Spain, Iran, USA, American countries, Russia, Cyprus. After suffering a stroke in 2005, he was partially paralyzed, but did not stop working with one hand. His works are in the Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), the National Picture Gallery of Armenia and the Museum of Modern Art (Yerevan), in the funds of the Ministry of Culture and the Art Fund of Armenia, as well as in numerous private collections in Armenia and abroad.
