Kanevsky Aminadav Moiseevich (1898, Elizavetgrad – 1976, Moscow).

Drawer, Peoples’s Artist of the USSR (1973), Acting Member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1973). Studied at VKhUTEMAS-VHUTEIN Higher School of Arts (1924-1930) under P.Ya. Pavlinov, N.N. Kupriyanov, V.A. Favorsky and D.S. Moor. Member of the Russian painters Association. Collaborated with the ‘Atheist at the Machine-tool’, ‘Pioneer’ and ‘Daiosh’ Magazines, with ‘Komsomolskaya Pravda’ and with the ‘Krokodil’ as well (since the middle of 1930th). Author of immortal illustrations to the children’s books ‘Golden key or adventures of Buratino’ by Aleksei Tolstoi (1942-1943 and 1950), ‘Cat’s House’, and ‘Such an absent-minded man” by S.Ya. Marshak, ‘Moidodyr’ and ‘Great Cockroach’ by K. Chukovsky, ‘What is good and what is bad’, by V. Mayakovsky, ‘Crying Girl’ by A. Barto, ‘Merry family’ and ‘Vitya Maleev at school and at home’ by N. Nosov. Illustrated the books by N. Gogol and V. Mayakovsky. Worked as a caricaturist and master of the satire placard. Besides the books and magazines drawing there are plenty of easel paintings made at the technique of water-color, dated 1930-1960 th, which are practically unknown. The works of A.M. Kanevsky are kept at the State Tretiakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and other museums.
