Ryangina Serafima Vasilievna (1888, Briansk – 1956, Moscow).
Honorary Art Worker of RSFSR. She studied in Petersburg at the studio of J.F. Tsionglinsky (1910-1912) and at the Academy of Arts (1912-1918 and 1921-1923) under D.N. Kardovsky. During the Civil War she worked in a newspaper and designed propaganda posters. Since 1923, she lived in Moscow. She was a member of the Artists of the Revolutionary Russia Association since 1924. She painted typically Social Realism pictures of Soviet laborers. She widely traveled the country. She painted also portraits, landscapes, still lives. The picture “Higher and Higher!” (1934, Kiev Russian Art Museum) made Riangina famous. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, Kiev Russian Art Museum).
