Samokhvalov Aleksandr Nikolaevich (1894, the Tver Region – 1971, Leningrad).
Studied at the Academy of Arts until it was closed (1914-1918), then at the Petrograd Free Arts Studios (1919-1923). Got under the influence of K.S. Petrov-Vodkin, with whom he traveled to Samarkand (1921). Was entering the ‘Artists’ Circle’ Association, that was esthetically proximate to the OST, as well as the ‘October’. Worked as a theater designer and book illustrator, illustrating the books for children. Series of lithography to the ‘History of one City’ by M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin. Author of autobiographical books ‘My creative rout’ and ‘At the years of uneasy son’. The Artist’s works are kept at the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and other museums.
