Oks Eugeny Borisovich - Portrait of a woman.. Year: 1930s. Technique: Oil on cardboard. Size: 34,5х25,5. Signed lower right. Oks Eugeny Borisovich (1899, Petersburg – 1968, Moscow). He studied at the Odessa Art College (until 1918), at V.N. Yakovlev’s school of painting and drawing in Moscow (until 1922). In 1918 he was one of the founders (together with E. Bagritsky, Yu. Olesha, I. Ilf, and other authors) of the poets club. He worked in the New Art Studio of M.V. Dobuzhinsky in Petrograd. In the 1920-1930-es he was a stage designer’s assistant in the Aquarium Theater and Korsh’s Theater. He was a member of the NOZH (‘New Society of Painters’) art society. The artist actively worked for publishing houses and for the Literaturnaya Gazeta (‘Literature Newspaper’). He was a member of the Revolutionary Artists Association in 1930, during the War produced wall newspapers and posters. He worked as an artist in the Painting Workshop of the Art Foundation of the USSR, delivered works to the Moscow Society of Artists. E.B. Oks had his one-man shows in Moscow in 1965. The artist’s works are in the in the Tretyakov State Gallery, Novy Ierusalim museum, Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945, in private collection in Russia, England, and Italy.
