Russian Soviet artist, graphic artist, master of children's book illustration, People's Artist of the RSFSR. Yu. A. Vasnetsov was related to Victor and Apollinary Vasnetsov. He received his initial artistic education from A.I. Stolbov in Vyatka. In 1921 he entered the painting department of the State Art Museum (later Vkhutemas), then studied at GINKHUK under Malevich. In 1932–1934 he was a graduate student at the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at the USSR Academy of Arts. He also studied with I. E. Braz, K. S. Petrov-Vodkin, N. E. Radlov. Immediately after graduating in 1926, he began to collaborate with the department of children's and youth literature of the State Publishing House, where, under the artistic direction of V.V. Lebedev, he found himself in the interpretation of themes and images of Russian folklore - fairy tales. In the 1930s The illustrations for the books “Swamp” and “The Little Humpbacked Horse” P. II brought him fame. Kriizha, “Fifty Little Pigs” by K. I. Chukovsky, “Three Bears” by L. I. Tolstoy. At the same time, he made elegant and fascinating lithographic prints for children, based on the same plot motifs. During the war, Vasnetsov was the chief artist of the Institute of Toys, where he performed poetic illustrations for “English Folk Songs” by S. Ya. Marshak (1943), and then for his book “Cat’s House” (1947). His illustrations for the folklore collections “The Miracle Ring” (1947) and “Fables in Faces” (1948) brought him success. The well-known collections “Ladushki” (1964) and “Rainbow-Arc” (1969) became a unique result of his many years of activity. In 1979, a retrospective exhibition of Vasnetsov’s works was held at the State Russian Museum. The work of Yuri Vasnetsov is presented in the collections of major Russian museums, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Pushkin Museum. A. S. Pushkin.
