Certificate by the Center of Artistic Expertise named after I.E. Repin. Nalbandyan Dmitry Arkadyevich (1906, Tiflis - 1993, Moscow). Soviet artist-painter, master of portraits. People's Artist of the USSR (1969). Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts. Hero of Socialist Labor (1976). Winner of the Lenin Prize (1982) and two Stalin Prizes (1946, 1951). One of the most famous official portrait painters of the Soviet era. In 1924 - 1929 he studied at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts with E. E. Lancere and E. M. Tatevosyan, after which he worked as an animator at the Georgian State Film Industry and at the Odessa Film Studio. In 1931 he moved to Moscow. Already in his youth, the creative interests of D.A. Nalbandyan were in the sphere of realistic art. Over his many years of creative life, he created portraits of many party functionaries (including Stalin, Khrushchev, Brezhnev). For a group portrait of figures of Armenian culture - ”Vernatun” (1974 - 1976) he was awarded the gold medal of the USSR Academy of Arts in 1978. Among the most famous works of D.A. Nalbandyan - “Lenin in the Gorki” (1959), “V.I. Lenin and A.M. Gorky on the island of Capri among Italian fishermen. 1908” (1962-1965), “V.I. Lenin with A.M. Gorky in 1920” (1954-1956), “V.I. Lenin’s speech on Red Square” (1969-1971). Works by Nalbandyan D.A. are presented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia and in many other museums in Russia and abroad. One of the artist’s self-portraits is in the Uffizi Gallery (Florence).
