Petrov. Krachkovsky Joseph Evstafievich (1854, Warsaw - 1914, Canedabia on Lake Como, Italy). Landscape painter. In 1871 he entered the Academy of Arts as a volunteer student. Three years later, after receiving a silver medal for landscape sketches, he began studying in the landscape class of Baron M.P. Klodt. In 1878 he was awarded a small gold medal for the painting “Morning”. In 1879 he graduated from the Academy with the title of artist of the first degree and the right to a pensioner's trip. From 1880 to 1884 traveled to the cities of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland. During this time, he created a large number of life studies, written under the influence of French artists. Upon his return, Krachkovsky received the title of academician for his submitted works. Since 1888 he taught at the Drawing School of the College of Arts. He was a member of the Society of Artists and the Kuindzhi Society. In Russia, the artist’s favorite theme was views of Moscow and St. Petersburg. A significant part of the artist’s heritage consists of southern landscapes of Crimea, the Caucasus, the South of France and Italy. In his work, Krachkovsky adhered to the traditions of academic realistic landscape. Personal exhibitions of I.E. Krachkovsky took place in St. Petersburg (1902, 1916), Paris and Nice (1908). The artist’s works are in the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Museum of the Academy of Arts and other collections.
