Almanac. Issue 345. Page 124. Sidorov Valentin Mikhailovich (born 1928, Tver province-2021). People's Artist of the USSR. Laureate of State Prizes. Member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts. Chairman of the Board of the Union of Artists of Russia. In 1948 he entered the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. I.E. Repin in Leningrad, where he studied with P. Belousov, R. Frenz, I. Stepashkin. Graduated from Moscow State Art Institute named after. V.I. Surikov (1954), studied with P.I. Kotova, F.P. Reshetnikov and V.G. Tsyplakova. From 1960 to 1966 directed the ”Academic Dacha”. Since 1951, he has been a permanent participant in city, regional, all-Russian and all-Union art exhibitions, as well as exhibitions of Russian art abroad. In 1997, he acted as a production designer for the ballet “Song about the Merchant Kalashnikov” (music by V. Kazenin) at the Omsk Opera and Ballet Theater. Member of the Russian Writers' Union (2001), laureate of the International Prize named after. M.A. Sholokhov (2000), author of the book “The Land of Inspiration” (1984), the story “Burn, Burn Clear” (2001), a series of stories about artists in the magazine “Museum World”. In 1996 for paintings from 1993-1995. was awarded a gold medal of the Russian Academy of Arts, and a year later became a laureate of the State Prize of Russia for the cycle of paintings “My Quiet Motherland”: “July Evening” (1994), “My Quiet Motherland” (1994-95), “Haymaking Morning” (1995), “Spring. High Sky” (1990-1996). The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and many regional museums.
