Glazunov Ilya Sergeevich (1930-2017) Soviet, Russian artist-painter, set designer, teacher. People's Artist of the USSR. Full holder of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland. Founder and rector of the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In 1956 he received the Grand Prix at an international competition in Prague, which served as the basis for his first personal exhibition, held in Moscow in 1957. In the 1960-1970s, Glazunov created illustrations for the works of Russian classics - Fyodor Dostoevsky, Alexander Blok, Alexander Kuprin, Nikolai Nekrasov, Pavel Melnikov-Pechersky, Nikolai Leskov. Glazunov was also known as a talented set designer. Together with his wife Nina Vinogradova-Benois, he designed productions of the operas “The Tale of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia” at the Bolshoi Theater, “Prince Igor” and “The Queen of Spades” at the Berlin Opera, and the ballet “Masquerade” at the Odessa Opera House. In 1996-1999, Glazunov was the artistic director of the restoration of the Grand Kremlin Palace. On August 31, 2004, the Moscow State Art Gallery of Ilya Glazunov was opened. Glazunov was a full member of the Russian Academy of Arts, a member of the Royal Academies of Arts in Madrid and Barcelona.
