Rudakov K.I. - Two of them. A lady in a blue corset.. Year:  1935. Technique:  Mixed media on paper. Size:  40х30. Descripton:  Signed and dated lower right. Rudakov Konstantin Ivanovich (1891, St. Petersburg - 1949, Leningrad). Representative of the Leningrad school of graphics. Exhibitor of the associations “World of Art”, “Artists’ Workshop”, “New Union of Traveling Exhibitions”. Took lessons from P.P. Chistyakov, studied in the private studio of V.E. Savinsky and in the New Art Workshop with B.M. Kustodieva, E.E. Lanceray, M.V. Dobuzhinsky. He studied at the Academy of Arts (1913-1922) in the workshop of D. N. Kardovsky. Since 1923, he collaborated with the satirical magazines “Smekhach”, “Behemoth”, “Crocodile”, and illustrated children's books. He illustrated novels by E. Zola (”Devastation”, ”Nana”), short stories and novels by Guy de Maupassant (”Dumpling”, ”Dear Friend”, ”Life”, etc.), ”Eugene Onegin” (1934), L.N. Tolstoy's novel ”War and Peace” (1941-1948), etc. Gradually he moved to easel graphics, created cycles ”Nepmans” (1928-1932), ”West” (1932-1934), ”Nude Models”. He taught at the graphic department of the INPI-IZhSA in Leningrad (1930-1949). He created sketches of costumes and makeup for theatrical productions. The artist's works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and in many regional museums.
