Serov V.A. - A man in a suit and boots.. Year:  The 1940s. Technique:  Charcoal and sanguine on paper. Size:  59х44. Serov Vladimir Alexandrovich (1910, Tver province - 1968, Moscow). Full member of the Academy of Arts. People's Artist of the USSR. Corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the GDR. Laureate of State Prizes in 1948 and 1951. In 1958 he was awarded a gold medal from the USSR Ministry of Culture and a silver medal from the World Exhibition in Brussels. President of the USSR Academy of Arts (1962-1968). Studied at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg (1927-1931) in the workshop of V.E. Savinsky, then in graduate school at INZhSA in the workshop of I.I. Brodsky. Most of the artist’s heritage consists of works on historical and revolutionary themes, as well as portraits. Serov created a large number of works dedicated to V.I. Lenin (“Walkers at Lenin’s”, “In Smolny”, “Winter is taken”). He worked as an illustrator, created illustrations for the poem by N.A. Nekrasov “Who Lives Well in Rus'” (1948-1949), to the novel by L.N. Tolstoy’s “War and Peace” (1951-1953). Participant in exhibitions since 1932. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and many regional museums.
