Markevich B.A. - Monastery walls.. Year:  1970. Technique:  Watercolor on paper. Size:  43х55,5. Descripton:  Signed and dated lower left. Markevich Boris Anisimovich (1925, Kharkov - 2002, Moscow). A famous master of book graphics and watercolors, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts. From 1943 to 1947 worked at the State Circus as a performing artist for painting fabrics. In 1949 he graduated from the graphic department of the Moscow Art Institute. V.I. Surikova. From 1971 to 1986 worked on illustrations of stories by Mikhail Zoshchenko, and also illustrated stories by V. Astafiev, “The Master and Margarita” by M. Bulgakov, “Literary Portraits” by A. Maurois. Member of the Moscow Union of Artists. Boris Markevich took part in many major exhibitions in our country and abroad. Personal exhibitions took place in Tbilisi (1984), in Moscow (1977, 1987), as well as at the Museum of Personal Collections in 2003. The artist’s works are stored in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and the Pushkin Museum. Pushkin, as well as in the collections of museums and galleries in Germany, Poland, France, Spain, the USA and Japan.
