Efanov Vasily Prokofievich (1900, Samara - 1978, Moscow). Painter. People's Artist of the USSR (1965), Academician of the USSR Academy of Arts (1947), Laureate of USSR State Prizes (1941, 1946, 1948, 1950, 1952). In 1917-1919 studied at the Samara Art College, then at the studios of A. Arkhipov and D. Kardovsky in Moscow (1919-1926). Participant of exhibitions since 1927. Personal exhibitions were held in Kuibyshev (1943), Moscow (1971, 1975), Baku (1971), Leningrad (1971). He painted portraits of Molotov many times, and also depicted him together with Stalin, Gorky, and Voroshilov. In 1939, for the World Exhibition in New York, he made the panel “Notable People of the Land of the Soviets.” In 1946 he was awarded the Stalin Prize for the painting “I. Stalin, V. Molotov and K. Voroshilov at Gorky’s bedside.” The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and the State Central Theater Museum. A.A.
