Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1977), full member of the Russian Academy of Arts (2000). He was a member of the board of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR. Works in Moscow and Pereslavl-Zalessky (1960-61). He studied at the Moscow State Art School with V.V. Pochitalov (1941–1948), at the Moscow State Art Institute named after. V.I. Surikov (1949 - 1954) from M.I. Kurilko, V.G. Tsyplakova. Since 1960, he taught in an art studio, worked as an artistic director at the House of Creativity named after. D. Kardovsky. Participated in art exhibitions since 1953. His works were exhibited at All-Union and Republican art exhibitions, as well as at international Biennales in Paris and Venice. Personal exhibitions of Andrei Andreevich Tutunov were held in Moscow in 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987 and 2013. The artist’s paintings are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, art museums of the former USSR, the Museum of Russian Art in Minneapolis (USA), and in many private museums in Russia and abroad.
