Papikyan A.S. - Male portrait.. Year:  1956. Technique:  Oil on canvas. Size:  100х70. Descripton:  Signed and dated lower right. Papikyan Albert Stepanovich (1926, Spitak district - 1997, Moscow). Soviet and Russian artist, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1989), Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1970), winner of the Silver Medal of the USSR Academy of Arts (1979). He studied at the Leninakan Children's art studio named after S. D. Merkurov, then won the right to study at the Moscow Secondary Art School at the All-Union competition. In 1942-1943, he studied at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts, after which he entered the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I. E. Repin, from which he graduated with honors in 1949 in the workshop of Professor B. V. Ioganson.; his thesis is the painting ”The Stakhanovites of Sevanstroy”. In 1949, he became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, and in 1972 he was elected chairman of the Bureau of the MOSKHA Painting Section. Since 1949, he has actively participated in art exhibitions — All-Union, republican, youth, Moscow and foreign (including in Japan, Canada, Belgium, USA, Spain, Germany, Great Britain, France, Bulgaria, Austria, Poland, Greece, Italy and Sweden). In 2000, his personal exhibition was held at the Moscow Academy of Arts. Papikyan's works, author of genre and thematic paintings, landscapes and still lifes, are represented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Naval Museum (St. Petersburg), the Museum of the Leningrad Academy of Arts, the art galleries of Tver and Smolensk, as well as in other Russian museums and private collections in Russia and abroad.
