Tretiakov Independent Research Examination.  Sokolov-Skalya Pavel Petrovich (1899, Strelna - 1961, Moscow). Soviet painter, graphic artist, master of historical and battle painting, teacher, professor. Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1949), People's Artist of the RSFSR (1956), winner of two Stalin Prizes (1942, 1949). He studied in the studio of I.I. Mashkov (1914-1918), from 1922 in his studio in VKhUTEMAS, in the easel painting class and at Mangari in the monumental class. One of the organizers and a member of the Genesis group (1921), a member of the AHRRa (1924-1931), RAPHa (1931-1932). He is an author of paintings based on historical, revolutionary and patriotic subjects, a graphic artist, and a theater artist. He headed the Central Moscow workshop of the military-political poster ”Windows of TASS” (1941-1946). In 1954, he supervised the reconstruction of F.A. Roubaud's panorama ”The Defense of Sevastopol”. People's Artist of the RSFSR (1956), full member and professor of the USSR Academy of Arts (1949), twice winner of the Stalin Prize (1942, 1949). The works of P.P. Sokolov-Skal are kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Museum of Fine Arts and other major museums in our country and abroad.
