Full member of the Russian Academy of Arts. Laureate of State Prizes. Laureate of the State Prize named after I.E. Repin (1985), State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of literature and art (1999). One of the largest representatives of the “severe style” of the 1960s. Member of the board of the Unions of Artists of the RSFSR and the USSR (1970 -1980). He studied at the Moscow Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts (1944-1946), at the Moscow State Art Institute named after. V.I. Surikov (from N.M. Chernyshev, A.M. Gritsai, P.D. Korin). Experienced the influence of N.Ya. Simonova-Efimova, I.S. Efimova, V.A. Favorsky. He worked as a teacher at the drawing department of the Moscow State Art Institute, and headed the drawing and composition department at the Moscow Printing Institute (1973-1981).
