People's Artist of the USSR. Full member of the USSR Academy of Arts. From 1968 to 1975 Chairman of the Board of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR. One of the largest representatives of the “severe style”. Studied at Moscow State Art Institute named after. V.I. Surikov (1945-1950) from S.V. Gerasimova, V.V. Pochitalova. Author of monumental paintings on historical, revolutionary and modern themes. Master of monumental historical and social-metaphorical works. In 1961 he was awarded the gold medal of the USSR Academy of Arts. In 1966, for the triptych “Communists” he was awarded the State Prize of the RSFSR. I.E. Repina. Since 1967, head of the department of monumental and decorative painting at the Moscow Higher Art and Industrial School. From 1968 to 1976 directed the creative painting workshop of the USSR Academy of Arts in Moscow. The artist’s works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum.
