Director, screenwriter, artist, honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts, winner of the Triumph Prize (1996), winner of the Grand Prix ”Cultural Heritage of the Nation” (2003). He studied at the directing faculty of VGIK (graduated in 1969), workshop of G. N. Chukhrai. Participated in solo exhibitions: at the Christine Colas Gallery (Paris, 1991), the Central House of Artists (Moscow, 1995), the Russian World Gallery (New York, 1996), the Nashchokin House Gallery (Moscow, 1997), the Art Gallery‑Panorama” (Rostov, 2001), Moscow (2001, 2004), London (2001), St. Petersburg‑St. Petersburg (2004), Odessa (2004), Vladikavkaz (2004). His works are represented in the State Hermitage Museum (the first Russian artist whose works were included in the museum's collection during his lifetime, 2003), the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Zimmerli Museum at Rutgers University (USA), the Ravenna National Gallery (Italy), galleries in Paris and London, as well as in numerous private collections around the world.
