Victorian or Edwardian Carved Oak Tantalus with Three Cut Glass Decanters - A late Victorian or Edwardian English tantalus set constructed of polished oak hardwood. The case features stepped construction and is accented with ornate, silver-tone metal corner fittings and escutcheon plates, likely brass or nickel. The wooden panels are extensively carved with scrolling floral and foliate motifs across the top and front sections. The tantalus is fitted with a side carrying handle and an internal mirrored back panel which reflects the contents. It houses three square-form cut-glass decanters, each featuring extensive geometric cutting and topped with a large faceted spherical stopper. The lower front section is accessed via two hinged wooden lids, secured by a central escutcheon plate, revealing partitioned storage compartments, likely intended for glasses or accessories.
