Antique English Oak and Brass Coal Purdonium or Fuel Bin, circa 1900 - A single antique sloping-front domestic fuel container, commonly identified in the market as a Coal Purdonium or Coal Bin, dating from the late Victorian or Edwardian period (circa 1900). The exterior casing is constructed of dark-stained hardwood, likely oak, featuring simple reeded detailing along the frame edges. The hinged lid is fitted with a fluted or reeded brass carrying handle, secured by decorative brass escutcheons. The sloping front panel is accented by two long, decorative brass straps and a central brass knob or pull. The interior contains a trapezoidal, steeply sloped liner made of blackened or galvanized metal, designed to facilitate the dispensing of coal or other solid fuel.
