Victorian Rococo Revival Parlor Armchair Attr. to Meeks - A richly carved Rococo Revival armchair. Executed in dark walnut with dramatic high cresting and deeply scrolled floral and foliate motifs. Boldy pierced crest rail features a central cartouche with scrolling acanthus, framed by additional rocaille carving along the serpentine stiles. Carved cabriole legs terminate in scrolled feet, connected by an apron richly decorated with C-scrolls and floral elements. Later crimson upholstery with gilt braid trim. Attributed to J & J.W. Meeks, New York (circa 1855-60); 51 in. H; 28 in. W; 17 in.
