Bidspirit auction | Belter Laminated Rosewood Rococo Revival

Belter Laminated Rosewood Rococo Revival Side Chair c. 1860-1870 - A richly carved laminated rosewood side chair attributed to John Henry Belter, New York, featuring a pierced Rococo Revival back with scrolling foliate openwork and laminated crest. The chair is raised on serpentine seat rails and cabriole legs terminating in scroll toes. Retains old rosewood surface and later blue damask upholstery. Closely related to Belter’s Medallion and Rosalie patterns, this chair demonstrates the deeply undercut carving and refined laminated construction characteristic of Belter’s New York workshop.
