John Henry Belter Laminated Rosewood Sofa, “Henry Clay” Pattern, c. 1850–1860 - Exceptional Victorian laminated rosewood triple-back sofa attributed to John Henry Belter, New York, in the celebrated “Henry Clay” Pattern. The pierced and carved crest rail displays clusters of roses and leaves, above a serpentine back with medallion center. Carved cabriole arms with upholstered rests flow into a serpentine seat rail with foliate carving, all raised on cabriole legs terminating in scroll feet. Upholstered in period-style fabric. 43 in.
