John Henry Belter Laminated Rosewood Armchair, “Henry Clay” Pattern, c. 1850–1860 - A fine Victorian laminated rosewood armchair attributed to John Henry Belter, New York, in the “Henry Clay” pattern. The pierced crest rail is richly carved with clusters of roses and foliage, above a balloon-back frame with tufted upholstered panel. The serpentine arms flank a shaped seat, raised on cabriole legs with scrolled toes. Upholstered in cream damask fabric.
