Pair of Old Paris Porcelain Vases, Mid-19th Century - A vibrant pair of Old Paris porcelain vases, each decorated in the high Rococo taste with elaborate applied gilt foliage and raised scrollwork. The flaring scalloped rims are edged in lavish gilding, cascading down into bold gilt accents along the shoulders and bases. The central reserves are finely hand-painted with colorful romantic figural scenes: one depicting a musician playing before a drum, the other showing a finely dressed figure with banner and staff, each set in pastoral landscapes beneath soft skies. The reverse panels feature complementary painted landscapes. The bodies are finished in a pale celadon green ground, enhancing the brilliance of the gilt and enamel decoration. 16 in. H, 10.5 in.
