Asthetic Movement Carved Rosewood Desk or Cabinet, Late 19th Century - A late 19th-century Aesthetic Movement writing desk or cabinet in richly grained rosewood, displaying strong Japanese influence. The superstructure features a pierced geometric gallery and a carved panel flanked by fretwork, over three small drawers. The fall-front writing surface is fitted with a dark leather (or felt) inset, and opens above four drawers, each decorated with finely carved bamboo motifs. The case rests on shaped bracket-style legs with pierced accents. A wonderful example of Eastlake/Aesthetic taste blending Western form with Asian decoration. 48 in. H, 29 in. W, 20 in. D.
