Pair of Five-Light Spelter Candelabra, Rococo Revival Style (Late 19th Century) - This elegant pair of candelabra exemplifies the late-Victorian Rococo Revival style . Each stands on ornate footed supports with a central baluster stem issuing five sweeping, scrolling arms. The arms terminate in fluted candle nozzles and foliate drip pans, and the overall design is lavishly cast in the rocaille tradition: the footed base and shoulders are adorned with prominently cast scallop shells and scrolling acanthus leaves. The lightweight metal is a zinc alloy spelter, an economical 19th-century substitute. Spelter was a popular material for candlesticks and lamps in the 1800s.
