Carved Tribal Male Ancestor Figure, Papua New Guinea, mid-20th century - Slender hand-carved wooden figure with elongated limbs and stylized facial features, painted in natural red, white, and black pigments. The figure’s angular head, pronounced nose, and deep-set eyes reflect the regional aesthetic of the Middle Sepik River region of Papua New Guinea, where such carvings were created for ritual or ancestral veneration. The surface exhibits fine patina and traces of age, with pigment weathering consistent with long-term exposure and handling. Mounted on a custom clear acrylic display stand.
