Polychrome Carved Tribal Figure, Baule People, Ivory Coast, mid-20th century - Hand-carved and polychrome-painted wood figure depicting a seated male chief holding a spear, wearing a patterned garment rendered in vivid geometric motifs of red, black, cream, and gold. The finely modeled features, high forehead, and smooth surface show the influence of Baule court sculpture, while the coloration reflects ceremonial figures produced for local chiefs and commemorative purposes. The carving displays delicate proportions and retains an old surface with light patina. Approximately 13 in. high, 4 in. wide, and 5 in. deep. Condition: Minor scuffs and paint losses from age and handling; overall very good with bright original pigment.
