African Tribal Bust, likely Baule, Ivory Coast, mid-20th century - A finely carved hardwood bust of a woman, probably Baule, depicting a serene female figure with elaborate coiffure, scarification details, and geometric inlays of light bone or composite material at the forehead, cheeks, and chest. The face is carved in deep relief with closed eyes and arched brows, and the surface shows a rich, warm brown patina. 16 in. H, 7 in. W, 8 in. D Condition: Very good overall; minor age splits and small natural imperfections to wood, one inlay area faintly worn.
