Yoruba Beaded Royal Chair (King’s Throne), Nigeria, Early–Mid 20th Century - An impressive Yoruba beaded royal chair, or “ade” throne, elaborately covered in thousands of hand-strung glass trade beads in polychrome geometric and symbolic motifs. The design features opposing stylized human faces with blue coiffures surmounting the uprights, flanked by mask-like medallions at the backrest. The seat and arms are woven in chevron and lattice bead patterns in vibrant hues of turquoise, red, yellow, and white, representing status and divine authority within Yoruba court tradition. The wooden frame is wrapped in fiber and decorated on all sides, including the front fringe, indicating ceremonial rather than everyday use. Approx. 36 in. H, 27 in. W, 24 in. D. Condition: Beads intact overall with minor losses and wear to thread wrapping; stable and visually striking.
