Bidspirit auction | Pair of Carved Foo Dog

Pair of Carved Foo Dog Figures, Chinese, early to mid-20th century - A charming pair of hand-carved Chinese Shishi (foo dog) guardian figures rendered in dense hardwood, each seated on a rectangular plinth with stylized key-fret borders. The lions exhibit pronounced manes and expressive faces with wide, grinning mouths and curled tails, typical of southern Chinese folk carving. Both display a warm, dark brown patina from age and handling. This pair embodies the regional vernacular style of early 20th-century export carving, likely originating from southern China. Their compact, weighty forms make them ideal as decorative bookends or altar guardians. Each approx. 11 in. H, 9 in. W, 5 in. D Condition: Good overall condition with age cracks to bases and minor surface wear; structurally solid with rich, undisturbed finish.
