Carved Female Figure Carrying Vessel, Luba or Hemba People, Congo, mid-20th century - Expressive hand-carved hardwood figure of a kneeling woman holding a large round vessel atop her head, representing fertility and maternal care. The figure’s full-bodied form and confident posture are typical of Central African traditions celebrating the nurturing role of women. The surface shows a rich, dark patina and fine age wear, with cross-hatched carving to the plinth base. Approximately 13 in. high, 5 in. wide, and 4 in. deep. Condition: Natural age cracks to vessel and base; surface wear and patina variation consistent with age and use.
