Chinese Carved Hardwood Figure of a Sage with Scroll, Late Qing to Republic Period (circa - Finely carved hardwood figure depicting an animated sage holding a scroll while leaning against a gnarled tree trunk. The expressive face, flowing robes, and naturalistic base are carved with fluid detail and smooth polish typical of Chinese scholar’s art of the late Qing to early Republic era. The underside retains a small old paper label with Chinese script, suggesting earlier export or collection provenance. Approx. 9 in. H, 5 in. W Condition: Excellent overall with minor age wear and small natural fissures to the wood; rich, even patina from handling.
