Chinese Carved Hardwood Figure of an Immortal, Late Qing to Republic Period (circa 1900–1930) - Expertly carved hardwood figure of an emaciated immortal, possibly Li Tieguai, seated upon a lotus base and holding a staff. The skeletal anatomy is precisely rendered, emphasizing the ribs, spine, and gaunt facial features, symbolizing transcendence through suffering in Daoist belief. The deep reddish-brown wood exhibits a smooth luster from age and handling, suggesting an early 20th-century origin. Approx. 10 in. H, 5 in. W Condition: Small age-related fissures and wear at extremities; otherwise excellent with well-preserved polish and fine detail.
