Baule Mask, Côte d’Ivoire, Early to Mid-20th Century - Finely carved Baule wooden mask with an oval face, high arched brows, and delicate features embodying the Baule ideal of serenity and beauty. The mask is surmounted by an elaborately coiffed hairstyle with incised geometric detailing and small raised motifs along the brow line. Rich reddish-brown patina with traces of dark pigment to the hair and interior, and pierced perimeter for attachment of cloth or raffia during performance. 15 in. H, 7.5 in. W, 5 in. D Condition: Minor wear, age cracks, and surface abrasions consistent with age and traditional use.
