Carved Wooden Dual-Reservoir Oil Lamp, Yoruba or Nupe People, Nigeria, early to mid-20th century - Unusual hand-carved hardwood oil or pigment lamp featuring two recessed bowls and a bird-like terminal, symbolizing communication between the physical and spiritual realms. Lamps of this type were traditionally used in ritual settings for illumination or for holding sacred substances during divination rites. The surface retains traces of red and black pigment and a dry, well-handled patina from long use. Approximately 11 in. long, 4½ in. wide, and 3 in. high. Condition: Age-appropriate wear; stable age cracks and surface residue consistent with use and age.
