Carved Tribal Mask, Guro People, Ivory Coast, mid-20th century - Elongated hardwood mask featuring a finely carved face with narrow nose, geometric coiffure, and pierced edges for attachment. The mask exhibits the distinctive stylization of the Guro people of Côte d’Ivoire, used in the Zaouli and other ceremonial dances to embody beauty, wisdom, and ancestral presence. The surface displays a deep brown patina with areas of lighter wear accentuating the carved relief. Approximately 18 in. high, 10 in. wide, and 6 in. deep. Condition: Expected surface wear, minor edge nicks, and natural age patina consistent with traditional use.
