Small Senufo Ancestor or Spirit Figure, Côte d’Ivoire, mid-20th century - Carved hardwood figure of abstracted human form with elongated facial features and a tall double-pronged coiffure, hands resting on the hips in a posture of strength and authority. The composition recalls Senufo and Bamana spiritual carvings, often associated with ancestral veneration and fertility rites. Deep patina and surface encrustations attest to age and ritual use. From an earlier U.S. collection, bearing an old Garth’s Auction label (“258 (2)”). 8 in. H, 3 in. W, 2¼ in. D Condition: Age cracks to base and crest, minor losses to tips, overall stable with good surface integrity.
