Bambara Terracotta Figure of Mother and Child, Mali, mid-20th century - Expressive terracotta sculpture depicting a kneeling female figure cradling a child, rendered with elongated limbs and minimalist facial features characteristic of Bambara fertility iconography. The work embodies the maternal theme often associated with protection and continuity within Bambara cosmology. Executed in coarse reddish-beige clay with natural firing variations and surface encrustations from age and handling. 10½ in. H, 4 in. W, 5 in. D. Condition: Minor abrasions, small firing cracks at base and shoulder, otherwise intact with good preservation of form and texture.
