Lost-Wax Bronze Figure of Mother and Child, West Africa, mid-20th century - Finely cast bronze figure depicting a stylized standing mother holding an infant, rendered in the traditional lost-wax technique with elongated proportions, pointed head, and expressive abstraction. The smooth, time-darkened surface exhibits traces of verdigris oxidation consistent with age and handling. Such figures, symbolizing fertility and maternal protection, were used in various West African cultures—most notably among the Dogon and Bamana (Bambara) peoples of Mali. Approx. 10¾ in. H, 3½ in. W, 4 in. D. Condition: Natural oxidation and minor surface encrustations; overall good patina and structural integrity.
