Carved Wooden Headrest, East Africa (possibly Ethiopian or Kenyan), mid-20th century - Graceful hand-carved wooden headrest featuring a concave upper platform supported by a geometric openwork base with incised linear patterns. Such headrests served both as functional sleeping supports and as symbols of status and personal identity within East African pastoralist cultures. The smooth patina and age-worn surface attest to traditional use and handling. 8 in. H, 8½ in. W, 4 in. D. Condition: Minor wear and surface abrasions consistent with use; small natural fissures to base and platform.
