Maya-Style Terracotta Female Figure, Mexico, mid-20th century - Modeled terracotta figure depicting a seated female dancer or fertility goddess with arms raised above the head and legs joined in stylized form, wearing a ribbed skirt and headdress highlighted in traces of red pigment. In the manner of Late Classic Maya figures (ca. 600–900 CE) from the Calakmul region, this example shows similar proportions and posture to ancient fertility icons used in household shrines. The accompanying label references a discovery site at Calakmul, Mexico, dated 1948. Approximately 6½ in. high, 2½ in. wide. Condition: Surface wear, encrustation, and pigment loss; stable and intact.
